1.0“if i could make a negative stars review, i would. this firm really shined me on and took all my money, with horrible results. I had a decent experience with this firm 5 years ago when I was fighting my ex for custody, but in hindsight my case was very strong- my ex was arrested for DV and child endangerment, so my dog could've probably won my case also. so I hired them again last year to represent me in my support case. What a mistake. I really should have looked at recent reviews, because things have really gone down hill since then. They passed me around to 4 or 5 different attorneys. One after another, none of them seemed to even read the details of my case. They certainly charged me for catching each new attorney up on my case details. They squandered my exorbitant retainer, they charged erroneously for simple tasks like a a half hour for a 1 sentence email reply. They were inputting my evidence to the courts the day of trial. They bled me dry, and I ended up representing myself and paying almost $1400 a month to a woman I have true 50/50 custody of my children with, after becoming unemployed before my court date because my employer went chapter 7. When I spoke with the court clerk in Columbia county family court, she said " oh yeah colwell is bad. That's where lawyers get their start" now they're writing emails CC'ng my father in law, threatening to hold him liable for some $700 charges they racked up after I fired them, because he helped me with the retainer on his card. Ridiculous. save yourself the trouble and go with a different law firm. The reviews speak for themselves. Colwell is a sinking ship, they can't keep good attorneys for long, and they will leave you high and dry.”
5.0“I've had such a positive experience with the Caldwell Group so far. Charlie has been an absolute pleasure to work with--he made me feel comfortable from the very first conversation. He truly listened, made me feel heard and understood, and did an incredible job helping me articulate my situation when I wasn't even sure how to put it into words myself. He's also very prompt and responsive, whether by email or phone, which has meant a lot during a stressful time. My assigned attorney, Vanessa, gave me a sense of ease after just one conversation that I honestly haven't felt with any other lawyer. She is confident, knowledgeable, and reassuring, and that confidence has helped me feel secure that I'm in the right hands and will be represented well. I'm very grateful to have connected with the Caldwell Group and to have them representing me.”
5.0“Marissa Winch was my attorney during a very difficult custody issue in family court. Not only was Marissa professional, but she also made me feel like I was talking to a friend. She explained everything to me and was very great at communicating. I Highly recommend Marissa!”
1.0“I must share the tremendously horrid experience I had with this law firm. I also highly recommend that if you are a male with children that you stay as far away from this law firm as possible because they will not work for you and you will end up losing custody of your children and paying ridiculous amounts of support to end up not getting to even see your children. From beginning to end it was blatantly apparent that they did not have my best interest at heart. Cognizant of this fact toward at the very beginning I asked on two separate occasions to switch my attorney within the firm but that fell on deaf ears, and I ended up with the same attorney that was assigned to me who happened to be located at a practice 34 miles away from my home office. When I was first served with papers there was a clause in the initial filing about temporary maintenance, which I correctly believed meant alimony. It is interesting that this clause was added into the filing considering my ex-wife was not seeking alimony and expressed as much to her attorney. What also made this clause stand out to me was the fact that it looked like someone separately just added it into the paperwork, as it was not tabbed correctly or aligned properly with all the other clauses in the document. When I first met with my appointed attorney, I sought clarification about this and was given an unsatisfactory and unsettling explanation, and it was subsequently brushed under the rug without even being investigated. Off to a great start which quickly made me more uneasy. Clear and concise communication was lacking. I never received the "notice of Entry documentation" after the first court appearance. In fact, I only became aware that such a document existed three months later by my ex-wife due to the stipulation that I was supposed to be paying a reduced amount of child support for three months leading up to a final settlement. Something which would have been critical for an attorney to inform their client about. Similarly, during the discovery demands and financial statement of net worth process there was a significant lag time from when the opposing council sent it to my council and when it was given to me to complete. Two weeks went by before my attorney gave it to me to complete and compile all the financial documentation that was requested of me, and I was given an abridged timeframe to compile and submit everything to them. One stipulation placed on me by the opposing council was that I needed to obtain an evaluation. I performed a significant amount of leg work in obtaining resources to reach out to complete this requirement. I reached out to over two dozen providers all of which told me that they did not perform such an evaluation. So, I reached out to my attorney for assistance and was provided with a list of about 6 or 8 additional providers I had not reached out to yet. When we reached out to all those providers none of them performed the legally requested evaluation. My attorney spent pointless billable hours attempting to assist me when none of the resources that were given to me were any good. Money well spent! During the settlement discussions, it was even more obvious that my best interests were not being taken seriously by my appointed council. We went back and forth several times with no work done on a deviation in the amount of support being pushed for by opposing council. Nobody took into consideration that I pay over $716 a month for full family health insurance which includes an additional $105 just to cover my ex-wife who can be covered by her own employer. I was not being taken seriously at all, the opposing council would just send back a "not agreed" to our settlement offers and my attorney was complacent with their rejection and fine not having to fight for me. The inexperienced and uncompassionate members of this law firm made the whole divorce process an absolute nightmare. I highly recommend staying away from these people at all costs. You would be better off representing yourself with divorce and custody.”
5.0“I am very grateful to Colslaw Law Group and especially to my Family Law attorney, Amanda. From the very beginning, Amanda has been professional, attentive, and genuinely caring. She took the time to listen to my concerns, explain every step clearly, and guide me through a complicated family law process with confidence and compassion. What impressed me most is her responsiveness--she always made sure I understood my options and kept me updated without delay. Her knowledge and dedication gave me peace of mind during a very stressful time, and the outcome she achieved for me was better than I expected. I also want to thank all of the staff at Colslaw Law Group for their support and professionalism throughout the process. I highly recommend Amanda and Colslaw Law Group to anyone looking for a Family Law attorney who truly goes above and beyond for their clients.”
5.0“I had a free consultation today with Jennifer Stevens, and she was amazing. She took the time to explain everything clearly and was very honest about how my situation might go, even when it wasn't necessarily what I wanted to hear. I really appreciated her transparency. She listened to my entire situation without rushing me and never made me feel judged for being honest about my mistakes. That alone made a stressful situation feel much more manageable. I'm very grateful for her time and compassion. Thank you so much Samantha Meyer”
5.0“John Lourie was awesome to work with. He was easily able to understand my situation and what I needed. Because of that, he quickly coordinated to get what I needed. A true professional, clear and concise communicator, and the example of amazing customer service.”
5.0“I'm thankful that this lawfirm is willing to fight for me. They have found solutions to my problems and I'm very grateful. Matthew has went to bat for me and I appreciate it more than he knows. They aren't even officially my lawyers yet but still want to help and for that I'm grateful just that initiative is more than they know.”
