“I highly recommend reading all the 1-star reviews before hiring Tim Hartley. My experience closely reflected many of the same concerns. Extremely disappointed in my experience with Tim Hartley and cannot recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable criminal defense attorney. I hired Tim in early 2024 for an assault charge and paid a $7,500 non-refundable retainer, but over the next year and a half I saw little to no meaningful work on my case. In the beginning, Tim gave me hope by telling me the police report was ridiculous and speaking as if he was very familiar with the people in the courtroom. At the time, this made me feel like I was in good hands and that he had my best interests at heart. Court dates were repeatedly pushed out, communication was minimal, and I rarely received updates or any indication that progress was being made. Tim recommended a PI who later told me the work wasn't needed, and Tim seemed frustrated despite his own recommended person saying that. This made me uneasy and left me feeling like I was being asked to spend money unnecessarily. When my co-defendant was found innocent, Tim's only response was a thumbs-up emoji. When I mentioned wanting to go to trial, he told me it would cost another $10-15k (which felt steep considering how little progress had been made for the original $7,500) and continued pushing unreasonable plea offers. At one court appearance, another person told me they had a similar experience, which only added to my concerns. After losing confidence that my case was being defended, I hired a new attorney. He ultimately got my case dismissed--something Tim insisted would not happen. In my experience, Tim provided minimal communication, little investigation, and no clear defense strategy. I cannot recommend him, especially if your future depends on the outcome of your case.”
