Criminal Defense & Constitutional Advocacy

Defending Constitutional Rights in Texas Municipal, County & District Courts

Facing criminal charges in Texas places an individual's freedom, reputation, employment, and constitutional liberties under direct threat from the formidable resources of state or federal prosecutors. Under the Texas Penal Code and the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, criminal allegations range from Class C misdemeanors through first-degree and capital felonies that carry severe mandatory prison sentences and life-altering collateral consequences.

Effective criminal defense requires immediate intervention and proactive constitutional scrutiny. Seasoned Texas criminal defense attorneys examine every phase of the state's case: evaluating whether law enforcement had reasonable suspicion for initial traffic stops, probable cause for warrantless searches or arrests, adherence to Miranda warnings, chain of custody for physical evidence, and compliance with statutory blood and breath testing protocols. Early defense representation allows counsel to engage prosecutors before grand jury indictments, negotiate bond reductions at magistrate hearings, file motions to suppress illegally obtained evidence, and present robust defenses before Texas juries.

“Erick has had a huge impact over the last year plus of my life and is the last attorney I will ever consider. He has been more than a lawyer for me and probably doesn't even know that. Yes, he absolutely handled multiple legal cases successfully for me but he also helped me navigate a family issue that honestly was breaking me, checked up on me when others didn't, and related to me on a level you wouldn't expect from a lawyer. And looking back I really needed those things. So if your looking for a buttoned up lawyer to put his head down and go win a case or negotiate your best outcome then he is going to do that for you but if you are looking for that and more than you found it. Mr. Platten, thank you for everything you have done for me and my family.”

“Eric is a very reliable lawyer. We had a case of evading arrest which is considered a felony in Texas, and it was dismissed and reduced to a traffic ticket which was such a desirable outcome. Furthermore, he helped with immigration consequences as well and made sure the case does not lead to any ICE detention/deportation. He was responsive in the whole process and made sure we understood the situation clearly.”

“I give him a zero star . This guy never returns phone calls.. all calls go to receptionist Kim. All she does is send a message to the attorney and she tells us that its up to the Attorney on when he decidws to calls us back. And this is even after he has been paid... this is very disturbing we have called this man so many times and no returned call”
