Texas Family Law & Domestic Relations

Protecting Parental Rights, Children & Marital Assets under the Texas Family Code

Family law matters are among the most emotionally challenging and legally intricate disputes an individual can face in the Texas legal system. Governed primarily by the Texas Family Code, family jurisprudence balances statutory rules with the discretionary equitable authority of family district court judges. Key issues center around the dissolution of marriage, complex financial divisions, and safeguarding the physical and psychological well-being of minor children.

Texas is a community property state. Under Texas Family Code § 3.002, all property acquired by either spouse during marriage is presumed to be community property subject to a "just and right division" upon divorce, unless proven by clear and convincing evidence to be separate property. In matters affecting the parent-child relationship (SAPCR), Texas courts prioritize the "best interest of the child" standard under § 153.002. Navigating temporary orders hearings, standard possession orders, expanded possession schedules, child support guidelines, protective orders, and mediation requires strategic, compassionate, and unwavering legal counsel.

“I will submit a grievance against them with the state bar:nnMy experience with this law firm was extremely disappointing. I came to this law firm in a very desperate situation where I lost $20k that my ex husband had stolen from me. I had to borrow the money for the retainer from friends because I was left with no savings.nI was so grateful to have found this law firm and that they were willing to help me get my funds back.nnThe lawyer I had was very unprofessional. She was never informed about my case and I had to explain to her my file at the court dates. She was also friends apparently with opposing counsel and went to lunches with her and talked to her about my case without informing me what their evidence was that they submitted.nnI paid approximately $9,000 in legal fees for representation. After a lengthy process and multiple delays, I was ultimately told that my case had been approached incorrectly from the beginning. Rather than correcting the issue under the existing representation, I was informed that a completely new case would need to be opened and that I would be required to pay an additional retainer fee.nnWhat is most frustrating is that after spending thousands of dollars, I received no meaningful result and am now being asked to spend even more money because the original legal strategy was allegedly not the correct one. In my opinion, the case should have been properly evaluated and handled from the outset.nnCommunication also became increasingly difficult, and obtaining updates or responses to my questions was a challenge.nnI do expect competent legal guidance, transparent communication, and accountability for the services provided. Based on my personal experience, I cannot recommend this firm.”

“DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS FIRM!nnI retained this firm for an agreed divorce involving children and later experienced serious concerns regarding billing transparency. I raised multiple questions about invoices and trust accounting that were not clearly addressed. After the firm initiated withdrawal, additional charges were incurred, including a credit card charge processed without prior notice or an invoice. I had an active billing dispute at the time. I did not sign an agreement authorizing automatic credit card charges. My concern is not paying for legitimate services, but the lack of clear communication and authorization regarding billing.nnNone of my billing disputes were resolved or even acknowledged and no contract existed with this firm.”

“Our experience with Eaton Law Firm, specifically with attorney Zachary Sanders, was extremely disappointing. This was our first time hiring legal representation, and despite seeing several concerning reviews beforehand, we decided to proceed with them given that the case was relatively simple and should not have been complicated. Unfortunately, the negative feedback we initially overlooked turned out to be accurate.nnFrom the beginning, it became clear that the firm was far more focused on billing than on providing meaningful legal support. Communication was poor and inconsistent. For example, scheduled 30-minute phone appointments would sometimes result in a 10-minute call--yet the full 30 minutes would still be billed (at $112 per call). This pattern was not an isolated incident but rather a recurring issue among many other concerns we encountered.nnI do not typically leave negative reviews, but the level of service we received from this firm compels me to warn others. If I could leave a rating below one star, I would. Please take this as a caution: do not waste your time or hard-earned money here. Seek legal counsel from a firm that values clients, communicates clearly, and genuinely cares about handling your case. Eaton Law Firm has shown us the opposite.”
